Three Awesome Pre-Owned Models That Are Great for Families
Raising a family is a lot of fun, incredibly enriching, and always full of surprises. However, you want the good types of surprises, like those morning cuddles and adorable art class projects on the fridge, and not the bad types, like backseat fights over snacks or running over bicycles left in the driveway. With the right family vehicle, you can create more of those good moments and hopefully avoid some of the hectic ones. At Future Honda, we have a large selection of used cars for sale that are loaded with features we think will help you enjoy having a car full of kids.
Below, we’ve listed three spacious options with tons of seating capacity and cargo space, impressive flexibility, and safety features that make a big difference when you’re distracted (which, you know, happens when you have kids in the car). Let’s get to know these three terrific models. If any of these models have grabbed your attention, it's now time to experience them for yourself and take a few test drives. Our team will gladly show you everything they have to offer and help you narrow down an option that fits your family's unique needs.
The Honda Odyssey
Let’s start with a classic family body style: the minivan. The Odyssey isn’t just any minivan though. It’s loaded with features that help you adapt to life’s surprises and hiccups. It has some of the most configurable seating options you could ask for, thanks to the Magic Slide 2nd-Row Seats. Here’s how it works: you can have all three second-row seats in for the full eight-seat capacity. Or, you can remove the middle seat, and slide the remaining two seats in several directions.
Are two best friends riding in the second row who want to read a book at the same time or share a tablet? Slide the seats together in Buddy Mode to put the besties side by side. Maybe two of your kids are in an argument, and you’d rather separate them (so one stops pulling the other one’s hair). Slide the seats apart and give the two temporary enemies some space until they make up. With that middle seat gone, you also provide easy access to the third row for rear passengers.
Speaking of the third row, it gets One-Motion 60/40 split 3rd-Row Magic Seats. This cool feature lets you quickly and easily fold the third row of seats into the floor. So, on days when you need that third row for backpacks and snack coolers instead of passengers, you can quickly create the space that you need. If you need just one or two of those rear seats, utilize the 60/40 split function and create just a little extra cargo space.
The Honda Odyssey also has two terrific features for parents who want to keep a closer eye on their rear-seat passengers: CabinWatch and CabinTalk. CabinWatch lets you monitor the second and third rows through live footage on the touchscreen. If you see something you don’t like, you can use CabinTalk to pipe your voice through the rear speakers—including when kids have headphones plugged into them. So they can’t claim they “didn’t hear you” when you tell them to stop playing video games and get back to their homework.
The Toyota Highlander
If you’re an adventurous family looking for a rugged SUV with tons of space for young passengers and their belongings, check out the Highlander. You can find a Highlander with seating for seven or eight — opt for a second-row bench seat for eight seats or second-row captain’s chairs for seven seats and a nice open middle aisle for easy access to the third row. So what happens when you’ve dropped all the kids off at school and need space for a full week’s worth of groceries from the wholesale store? Good news: both rear rows fold flat, allowing you to create up to 84.3 cu.ft. of cargo space.
The rear rows are designed to keep little ones content, too—particularly at naptime—thanks to the available second row sunshades. Create a calm, cave-like environment to enable those road trip snoozes (that enable better-at-destination moods). Everyone can bring their favorite beverages on the road, too, thanks to the eight total cupholders and four bottle holders.
The Toyota Highlander will impress you with its safety features, too. It has Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 standard on all trims, which has loads of great features like a Collision Mitigation System and Road Sign Assist. It also has available Front and Rear Parking Assist, which can help you nail those tight parking jobs—even during backseat tantrums. The available Bird’s Eye View Camera is a nice touch, too, especially when navigating the suburbs or school zones, where kids playing in the street don’t always look where they’re going—but you have to.
The GMC Acadia
One reason we really like the GMC Acadia is that it can actually be found as a two-row or three-row SUV. So, it technically exists in both the mid-size and three-row SUV categories. If you only need seating for five passengers, find yourself a two-row model, and if you need seating for six or seven, find a three-row model.
Both the second and third rows fold flat, so like the other vehicles on this list, the Acadia makes it easy to switch between prioritizing passengers and cargo, without much notice (which is how much of family life goes, right?) If you find a model with the available Smart Slide second row, it’ll be really easy for third-row passengers to get to their seats—just slide that second row forward a few inches, and nobody has to crawl over seatbacks (which means nobody has to scuff up the upholstery).
A pass-through under-console in the front makes it easy to send little creature comforts to the second row, like snacks or tissues. And in the very back of the vehicle, if you find a model with a hands-free programmable power liftgate, you’ll enjoy even more cargo ease. So long as you have your keyfob on you when you get within six feet of the bumper, it will project the GMC logo. Just kick your foot over the logo, and the trunk will automatically open. The fact that you can program the height means you can ensure it never goes so high as to scrape your garage ceiling (or so high that your kids can’t reach it).
