Future Honda of Citrus Heights presents  a comparison: 2025 Honda Pilot vs 2025 Honda HR-V

Fresh off a recent redesign, the 2025 Honda Pilot continues to shine as Honda’s most spacious and versatile SUV, and it makes a striking contrast to its smaller sibling, the 2025 Honda HR-V. Designed with families in mind, the Pilot is a full-size, three-row SUV that comfortably seats up to eight passengers. It boasts a larger overall footprint than ever before, offering expansive passenger space, a commanding driving position, and a generous cargo area that makes it a perfect fit for road trips, daily carpools, and everything in between. In contrast, the HR-V is Honda’s smallest SUV, ideal for city dwellers, first-time buyers, or anyone who values maneuverability and efficiency over maximum capacity.  The 2025 Honda Pilot is powered by a strong 3.5-liter V6 engine and is paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission and available all-wheel drive. Families in the Sacramento, Roseville, Folsom, Carmichael and Elk Grove areas have been particularly impressed with the Pilot’s smooth ride, quiet cabin, and clever interior features, like the removable second-row center seat that can be stowed under the floor when not needed. The Pilot also comes packed with small-item storage areas, cupholders galore, and high-quality materials that make every drive feel a little more premium.  Meanwhile, the 2025 Honda HR-V is a more compact, affordable option, making it great for solo drivers, couples, or small families who don’t need three rows. It features a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine and it prioritizes fuel efficiency and urban practicality. Its interior, though smaller, is still thoughtfully designed with comfortable seats, a modern layout, and up to 55 cubic feet of cargo space with the rear seats folded down.  In this review, Future Honda of Citrus Heights will take a deep dive into each suv and offer insights into all the differences and similarities in terms of engine specs, dimensions, fuel economy, and interior highlights.

Engine Specs and Fuel Efficiency Comparison

When comparing engine specs between the 2025 Honda Pilot and the 2025 Honda HR-V, it's clear these two SUVs are built for very different drivers. The 2025 Honda Pilot is powered by a 3.5-liter V6 engine producing 285 horsepower and 262 lb-ft of torque. Mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission, the Pilot delivers smooth, responsive shifts and achieves an impressive 0–60 mph time of just 6.9 seconds. This powertrain not only makes for confident passing and merging but also enables the Pilot to tow up to 5,000 pounds, making it ideal for families who travel with trailers, boats, or campers.  The 2025 Honda HR-V, on the other hand, is designed with efficiency and everyday driving in mind. It comes with a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine that generates 158 horsepower and 138 lb-ft of torque. Paired with a continuously variable transmission, the HR-V prioritizes smoothness and fuel economy. While it’s not built for towing and won't win drag races—the HR-V takes about 9.4 seconds to reach 60 mph—it excels in urban environments where handling and great fuel economy are more important. Front-wheel-drive HR-V models deliver an EPA-estimated 26 mpg city and 32 mpg highway, making it an efficient choice for commuters or those who prefer lower operating costs.  Fuel economy for the larger Pilot is still competitive for its class. Front-wheel-drive models earn 19 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway, while opting for all-wheel drive dips highway efficiency slightly to 25 mpg.

Interior Comparison

The 2025 Honda Pilot and 2025 Honda HR-V both deliver Honda’s signature blend of practicality and smart design, but they cater to different needs when it comes to interior space and features.  Designed with families in mind, the 2025 Honda Pilot offers a roomy and highly flexible cabin. Most trims seat up to eight passengers across three rows. A standout feature exclusive to the Touring and Elite trims is the removable middle seat in the second row, which can be conveniently stowed beneath the cargo floor when not in use, allowing for added storage space or easier third-row access. The Pilot dominates in cargo capacity with a class-leading 113.7 cubic feet of maximum space when the second and third rows are folded flat. Family road trips are made easier with 14 thoughtfully placed cupholders, including ones large enough to hold 32-ounce water bottles. Tech-wise, the 2025 Honda Pilot starts with a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, with upper trims offering a larger 9-inch display, both positioned high on the dash for easy visibility. Physical buttons and knobs remain, allowing for intuitive use while driving. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, with higher trims upgrading to wireless connectivity, wireless device charging, and a 12-speaker premium Bose audio system.  In contrast, the 2025 Honda HR-V offers a more compact interior designed for comfort and practicality in a smaller footprint. With seating for up to five passengers, the HR-V is a great choice for singles, couples, or smaller families. While it doesn’t offer third-row seating, it makes the most of its space with supportive front seats, a modern and minimal dash layout, and ample room in the second row for adults. Cargo space is solid for its class, with 55 cubic feet of room when the rear seats are folded down. The 7-inch infotainment system is also standard here, but select trims get a 9-inch touchscreen, along with available wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. A digital instrument cluster, push-button start, and available dual-zone climate control add an upscale touch to higher HR-V trims.
